"I was trying to overtake him and do my pace… I think he wasn’t looking, hit me, and I crashed" – Bulega, Razgatlioglu on Superpole Race clash

Razgatlioglu and Bulega react after their Superpole Race clash added yet another layer of drama to the 2025 season

While the title was decided in Race 2 at the Circuito de Jerez - Angel Nieto, Andalucia, there was a dramatic moment in the Tissot Superpole Race. As the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship ended its 2025 campaign, Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) and Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) collided at Turn 5, sending ‘El Turco’ sliding into the gravel as the Pirelli Spanish Round ended the season in frantic style.

THE CONTEXT: Title on the line

After the Race 1 results, where Bulega beat Razgatlioglu, the reigning Champion only needed to finish P7 or higher to wrap up the title in the 10-lap race. Razgatlioglu got a good start and immediately leapfrogged ‘Bulegas’, leading through the first four corners. At Turn 5, Razgatlioglu took a slightly wider line, looking to get a good exit through the second apex while Bulega was able to hold a tighter line, with the pair crashing. Bulega was able to continue but Razgatlioglu's race was over, and the title fight rolled onto Sunday. The incident was investigated by the FIM WorldSBK Stewards, with Bulega given a Long Lap Penalty for irresponsible riding.

THE TITLE FIGHT: Razgatlioglu wins in Race 2

The incident had a knock-on effect into Sunday’s Race 2, with Razgatlioglu seeing his lead slashed to 22 points while he also started the final race of the season from the fourth row in tenth place. However, the Turkish superstar methodically made his way through the field as he claimed a podium place with third to wrap up his third WorldSBK title before moving to MotoGP for the 2026 campaign.

RAZGATLIOGLU'S VIEW: “After, I just stayed calm because I know this is racing”

Giving his view on the crash, Razgatlioglu said: “This is racing. Everyone tries their best. At Turn 5, I was on my normal line. I think he wasn’t looking, he hit me, and I crashed. After, I just stayed calm because I know this is racing. He also rides aggressively but I don’t need to say anything. I was just focused on my job, trying to get the title and be calm.”

BULEGA’S OUTLOOK: “My strong point is corner speed, so I always try to overtake like that”

Bulega also spoke about the incident, saying: “I always overtake Toprak in the middle of the corner because it’s my riding style. His riding style is about hard braking, and I can’t overtake him there. My strong point is corner speed, so I always try to overtake like that. I did it yesterday at the same moment, in the same corner, and I did it today. Unfortunately, Toprak crashed. We always had great racing, very aggressive, and we were always on the limit. It’s not easy when you’re at this speed with big bikes. I’m sorry but I was just trying to overtake him and do my pace.”
